Biography	Still second to none in rapid events, where his results are flat out scary, Anand also went + 1 in two major classical events – Linares and M-Tel – much like last year, and scored a fine 75% in the Bundesliga. Anand might look back at 2005 as a bittersweet year, much because of two defining events at the opposite ends of the year: His 8/13 and clear second here in Corus in January was a great results - +3 against such a field is something to smile at - but as the defending champ, Vishy must have felt somewhat unfulfilled seeing Leko stopping his ‘Threepeat”. In October, he once again left a noticeable mark with a usually-good-enough-for-first-place score of + 3 (8.5/14) at the FIDE World Championship tournament in San Luis, but it was overshadowed by Topalov’s scorching victory. Many would have killed for such a score and achievement, but I think for the Indian star anything but first was a disappointment of some sorts. With both of his spoilers competing again in Corus ’06, I bet that Anand is coming with thoughts and ambition of something to prove and an account to settle.
